Jeonju Hanok Village & Food Trail 2D

Rent a hanbok early (free Gyeonggijeon entry perk) and spend the morning in the Hanok Village: Gyeonggijeon Shrine, the hilltop Omokdae for a panoramic view, and Jeonju Cathedral's unusual East-meets-West architecture. Bibimbap lunch at the original home of this iconic dish. As the sun sets, head to Makgeolli Town for the legendary side-dish marathon — 8+ free banchan with every kettle of rice wine.

1. Jeonju Hanbok Rental Street

   Cluster of hanbok rental shops at the entrance to Jeonju Hanok Village. Rent a traditional Korean outfit for 2-4 hours from 15,000-30,000 KRW and get free entry to Gyeonggijeon Shrine. Walking through the village in hanbok is half the Jeonju experience.

2. Gyeonggijeon Shrine

   A royal shrine built in 1410 to house the portrait of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon Dynasty. The serene bamboo grove and 600-year-old ginkgo tree create a peaceful atmosphere perfect for contemplation.

3. Omokdae Hilltop Viewpoint

   A hilltop pavilion offering panoramic views of the entire Hanok Village. This historical site is where King Taejo celebrated his victory in the Hwangsan Battle. The sunset view over the traditional rooftops is breathtaking.

4. Jeondong Catholic Cathedral

   A stunning Romanesque cathedral built in 1914 on the site of Korea's first Catholic martyrdom. Its Byzantine-influenced dome and red brick facade create a striking contrast with the surrounding hanok buildings. One of Korea's most beautiful churches.

5. Jeonju Makgeolli Town (Samcheon-dong)

   A legendary alley of traditional makgeolli (rice wine) bars where each drink order comes with an ever-growing spread of complimentary side dishes. Order a kettle of makgeolli and watch 8-12 free anju dishes arrive — from jeon pancakes to stir-fried pork to fresh tofu.

Start with Jeonju's famous hangover cure: kongnamul-gukbap (bean sprout rice soup) — the perfect recovery from last night's makgeolli. Walk through Pungnammun Gate to Nambu Market for tteokgalbi, choco-pie, and pi-sundae. Afternoon at Deokjin Park for the lotus pond (stunning July-August). End with traditional tea at Gyodong Dawon.

1. Pungnammun Gate

   The last surviving gate of Jeonju's Joseon-era fortress wall. Treasure No. 308. Originally built in 1389, destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. The two-story pavilion gate stands as the southern entrance to old Jeonju and marks the border between the modern city and the Hanok Village area.

2. Jeonju Nambu Market

   A traditional market with over 100 years of history, transformed into Jeonju's hottest night market on weekends. By day, local vendors sell produce, dried goods, and traditional Korean snacks. By night, the Youth Mall section fills with creative street food stalls and live music.

3. Deokjin Park

   Jeonju's beloved city park famous for its summer lotus pond. From July to August, the entire lake surface is covered in pink and white lotus flowers. A wooden boardwalk crosses through the lotus field. Outside lotus season, it's a peaceful lake walk with willow trees.

4. Gyodong Tea Garden (Dawon)

   A Blue Ribbon award-winning traditional tea house in Jeonju Hanok Village, serving handmade yakgwa (honey cookies) and aged teas for over 16 years. The serene hanok atmosphere and warm ondol floors make it a good spot for a quiet tea break.
