Cape Ashizuri is the southernmost tip of Shikoku, where 270-degree Pacific Ocean panoramas are so vast that the curvature of the Earth becomes visible on the horizon. A striking white lighthouse built in 1914 stands at the cliff's edge, one of the largest in Japan, and about 150,000 camellia bushes bloom brilliantly around the cape each February. The 38th temple of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, Kongofuku-ji, is located nearby.

Tips
- Public transport from JR Nakamura Station involves a bus ride of over an hour — renting a car gives you much more flexibility for exploring the surrounding area.
- February is the best time to visit for the camellia blooms; the camellia-lined road leading to the lighthouse is especially beautiful.
- A 2 km coastal walking path covers the cape's highlights and takes about an hour to complete.
- The cape is very exposed and windy — bring a windproof jacket and wear sturdy, non-slip shoes.
