Daegwallyeongyet-gil

In the Joseon Dynasty, everyone crossing between the east and west coasts passed over this ridge. Legend says Shin Saimdang walked it holding young Yulgok's hand, missing her mother back in Gangneung. Highways now blast through Daegwallyeong, but the old path still sits under dense forest canopy. Even in midsummer the shade keeps it cool, and the leaf-covered dirt is soft underfoot. This is walking through a history textbook with your feet. The trail is manageable and free. Afterward, the nearby Daegwallyeong Museum offers a quick overview of the region's past. It suits the kind of day when you want to walk quietly, away from the noise of tourist attractions.
