Seongyojang

Seongyojang is not a museum — it is a house. For three hundred years the same family has lived here across eleven generations, and descendants still occupy part of the estate. Walk through the main gate, past the inner quarters, the men's hall, the detached wing, and into the garden, and you begin to feel how a Joseon noble household organized space. Separate zones for men and women, a dedicated quarter for guests, even the servants' circulation planned into the architecture. Hwallaejeong is the estate's crown jewel. The pavilion seems to float above its pond — lotus flowers fill the water in summer, maple leaves in autumn. You can stay overnight in the hanok quarters, and sitting on the wooden floor at night listening to the garden in the dark is an experience no hotel can replicate. Ojukheon is a fifteen-minute walk away, Gyeongpo Lake a ten-minute bike ride.
