A beautifully landscaped botanic garden nestled in the mountains of Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, operated by LG Evergreen Foundation. Known for its stunning autumn foliage, themed garden trails, and a monorail that takes you through the scenic hillside. A hidden gem for nature lovers, especially in fall.

Guide
Hwadamsup is an ecological botanic garden operated by the LG Evergreen Foundation, opened to the public in 2013. Spanning over 170,000 pyeong (approximately 560,000 square meters) along the mountainside near Gonjiam in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, it was designed to create meaningful connections between people and nature. Over 4,300 plant species are arranged across themed gardens, including a moss garden, birch forest, water lily pond, and bonsai garden, each offering a distinct atmosphere. The garden's crowning glory is autumn. From mid-October to early November, the entire mountain transforms into a breathtaking canvas of reds and golds, earning Hwadamsup its reputation as one of the best autumn foliage destinations near Seoul. A 3-kilometer monorail ride carries visitors above the treetops for panoramic views of the colorful mountainscape — a perfect option for those who prefer not to walk the full trails. Advance online reservation is mandatory, and during the autumn peak season, slots fill up quickly — booking at least a week ahead is strongly recommended. While every season has its charm, from spring wildflowers and summer hydrangeas to winter snowscapes, first-time visitors should prioritize the fall foliage period. Located about an hour's drive from Seoul, Hwadamsup makes an excellent day trip for anyone seeking deep immersion in nature without venturing far from the capital.
