Iya Valley, Miyoshi, Tokushima, Japan
Iya Valley in western Tokushima Prefecture is a remote mountain gorge known for its vine bridges (kazurabashi) woven from hardy kiwi vines. The emerald Yoshino River and steep cliffs create one of Japan's three most secluded landscapes, offering a glimpse of untouched rural Japan.
- Bus from JR Oboke Station (about 25 min), but driving is most convenient.
- Kazurabashi bridge crossing fee is 550 yen — the bridge sways, so hold on.
- Stay overnight at an onsen hotel for the full experience.
- Consider combining with a boat ride through the Oboke Gorge.
