Jeongdongjin Sculpture Park is an outdoor sculpture park located at Jeongdongjin Beach, Korea's most famous sunrise viewpoint. The name Jeongdongjin means 'due east of Gwanghwamun in Seoul,' and the area is known for having the closest train station to the ocean in the world. The park features an iconic hourglass sculpture and various artworks along the coastal cliffs overlooking the East Sea.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before sunrise to secure a good viewing spot
- From Seoul Cheongnyangni Station, take KTX to Gangneung (about 2 hours), then transfer to Mugunghwa train to Jeongdongjin (about 25 minutes)
- The beach is a 1-minute walk from Jeongdongjin Station; the hourglass park area is free to enter
- The January 1st sunrise event draws massive crowds; book accommodation at least one month ahead
- Combine with a visit to nearby Haslla Art World for a half-day itinerary
