1-chōme-2-1 Marunouchi, Kochi, 780-0850, Japan
One of only 12 original castles remaining in Japan, with both the tenshu (main keep) and honmaru palace surviving in their original form — extremely rare. The hilltop location offers clear views across Kochi city.
- Admission ¥420. The Sunday Market (日曜市) at the base of the castle hill has been running for 300+ years.
- 15-minute walk from Kochi Station. Combine with nearby Hirome Market for katsuo tataki (straw-grilled bonito).
- The climb to the main keep is steep but takes just 10 minutes. Kochi stays relatively warm even in winter.
