Korean Folk Village

Opened in 1974, Korean Folk Village is a living history museum that recreates over 260 traditional houses from every region of Joseon-era Korea in one location. Nobleman's estates, commoner dwellings, blacksmith forges, and village schools have been restored exactly as they were lived in, so simply walking through the grounds transports you into daily Joseon life. What sets it apart from ordinary theme parks is that several structures here are officially designated cultural properties. The highlight performances — tightrope walking, horseback martial arts, and traditional wedding ceremonies — run 2-3 times daily. The tightrope act in particular is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage art form, combining acrobatics with witty banter, and this is one of the few places in Korea where you can see it performed live. Hands-on programs like wearing hanbok, playing traditional games, and making rice cakes make it especially popular with families. Seasonal festivals keep the village fresh year-round: cherry blossom celebrations in spring, a haunted house experience in summer, harvest thanksgiving in autumn, and Lunar New Year folk games in winter. It's a 30-minute shuttle ride from Suwon Station, making it an easy day trip from Seoul.
