A vast public park home to over 1,000 freely roaming deer, considered sacred messengers in Shinto tradition. The park encompasses major cultural sites including Todai-ji Temple, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and the Nara National Museum.
- Buy 'shika senbei' (deer crackers, ¥200) from vendors to feed the deer.
- Bow to the deer and they will bow back — it's a learned behavior!
- Keep food hidden; deer may nibble on maps and bags if they smell food.
- Combine with Todai-ji Temple — the Great Buddha is just a short walk away.
