Kanazawa's largest fresh food market, Omicho has been the city's culinary heart for over 300 years since the Edo Period, hosting around 200 shops under its covered arcades. The Sea of Japan seafood — snow crab, yellowtail, and shrimp — is the star, and a cluster of restaurants inside the market serves fresh seafood rice bowls at lunch. It's a lively mix of local grocery shopping and tourist dining in one bustling space.
- 1. The prime window is 9 AM–3 PM when most shops are open; popular seafood items often sell out by midday, so arrive early. 2. November brings the richest seasonal seafood including snow crab and yellowtail. 3. Reach the market by a 15–20 minute walk from Kanazawa Station or by bus to the Musashigatsuji/Omicho Market stop. 4. Restaurants inside get very crowded at lunch — aim for before 11 AM if you want a seat without a wait.
