Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in 628. Enter through the massive Kaminarimon gate with its giant red lantern, walk through Nakamise-dori shopping street lined with snack and souvenir stalls, then reach the main hall.

Tips

Try age-manju (fried buns) and ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cakes) on Nakamise-dori. Around 100 yen each.
Go early morning to avoid crowds and get clean photos. After 10am it gets packed.
Worth seeing lit up at night. Shops close but the temple grounds are open 24 hours.
