One of Korea's three great Buddhist temples and historically its most prolific producer of high monks. The cedar forest path leading to the gate sets the mood before you even arrive. Inside, 27 cultural assets — including four National Treasures — remain in active use, making this feel less like a museum and more like a living, breathing sacred space.
- Free entry since May 2023. Small parking fee may apply.
- Winter hours close at 17:00 — morning visits have fewer crowds and better light.
- The 800-year-old twin juniper trees at Cheonjaam Hermitage require an extra 40-minute uphill walk.
