Zenrakuji is the 30th temple on the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage, founded by the monk Kobo Daishi during the Daido period (806–810 CE). Nestled in the lush greenery near Kochi City, it is one of the few pilgrimage sites with a female chief priest. The serene grounds welcome both devout pilgrims completing the Ohenro circuit and casual visitors seeking a peaceful atmosphere.

Tips
- Approx. 25 min walk from JR Tosa-ikku Station, or 10 min by car from Kochi IC (free parking available). Pilgrimage stamp (nokyocho) office open year-round 7:00–17:00; ¥300 per stamp. Wear comfortable walking shoes and carry water. The best seasons for the Shikoku pilgrimage are March–May and October–November when temperatures are mild.
