Korea Autumn Foliage Journey: Seoraksan→Gangneung→Danyang 4D

Express bus from Seoul to Sokcho (2.5 hours). Head straight to Seoraksan cable car — in mid-October, the entire mountain is ablaze in red, orange, and gold. The 5-minute ride offers 360° panoramic foliage views. Hike 15 minutes to Gwongeumseong Fortress ruins for even better vistas. Evening at Sokcho Abai Village for local North Korean-style fish cake.

1. Seoraksan Cable Car

   A cable car ride to the peak of Gwongeumseong Fortress on Seoraksan (1,708m), Korea's most dramatic mountain. In autumn (October), the entire mountainside explodes in red, orange, and gold — arguably the best fall foliage view in Korea. The 5-minute ride offers 360° views of inner Seoraksan and the East Sea.

2. Abai Village

   A North Korean refugee settlement from the Korean War, now a cultural village famous for its unique Gaetbae (hand-pulled ferry) crossing and Abai sundae (blood sausage).

Bus to Gangneung (1 hour along the scenic coast). Start at Anmok Coffee Street — Korea's coffee capital with 30+ roasteries on a beachfront strip. Walk Gyeongpo Beach under autumn skies. Afternoon at Jeongdongjin — famous for the sunrise (set your alarm for tomorrow), with a beached train and dramatic cliffs. Tofu dinner at Chodang Sundubu Village.

   Korea's coffee capital! A beachfront street lined with 30+ specialty coffee shops. Gangneung is the birthplace of Korean coffee culture with annual Coffee Festival.

2. Gyeongpo Beach

   One of Korea's most famous beaches with a 1.8km white sand coastline. Popular summer destination with clear waters, sunrise views, and nearby Gyeongpo Lake for cherry blossoms in spring.

3. Jeongdongjin Sunrise Park

   Korea's most famous sunrise spot with a train station right on the beach. The Sandglass Park hourglass sculpture and Sun Cruise Resort (ship-shaped hotel on a cliff) are iconic landmarks.

Drive or bus to Danyang (2.5 hours through mountain roads — the drive itself is peak foliage). Dodamsambong — three dramatic rock pillars rising from the river, framed by autumn colors reflected in emerald water. Afternoon at Mancheonha Skywalk — a glass-bottomed walkway jutting out over a cliff with the South Han River far below. Garlic-everything dinner (Danyang's signature).

2. Mancheonha Skywalk

   Glass observation deck 80m above the South Han River with zip-line, alpine coaster, and sky swing. Breathtaking views of Danyang's river valley and mountains.

Morning at Gosu Cave — a 450-million-year-old limestone cave with stunning stalactites and underground pools. One of Korea's most impressive natural wonders. If time permits, try Danyang paragliding for aerial autumn foliage views. Afternoon bus back to Seoul (2 hours), arriving in time for dinner.
