Namsan Baekbeom Square

Baekbeom Square is far more than a simple city park — it is a place steeped in Korea's independence history. The bronze statue of Kim Gu (pen name Baekbeom) standing at its center honors the man who led the Korean Provisional Government during the Japanese colonial era and devoted his life to national sovereignty. The name 'Baekbeom' reflects his belief that even the humblest citizen should carry love for their country in their heart. Situated on the northern slope of Namsan Mountain, the square doubles as a convenient starting point for hiking up to Namsan Tower. It is within walking distance of Myeongdong and Seoul Station, making it easy to weave into a sightseeing route. The walk from here to the summit takes roughly 40 minutes. Open 24 hours with free admission, it works well for an early-morning stroll or an evening wind-down. The square is at its most stunning from late October through mid-November, when ginkgo and maple trees paint the grounds in gold and crimson — easily one of Seoul's finest autumn scenes. Spacious paths, shaded benches, and well-kept walkways make this an ideal retreat from the busy streets just minutes away.
