DDP - Dongdaemun Design Plaza

Opened in 2014, the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is the world's largest atypical architecture, designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. The flowing curved exterior — with not a single straight line — is made of 45,000 aluminum panels. For architecture fans, the exterior alone is worth the visit. Inside you'll find exhibition halls, design markets, and conference spaces hosting major cultural events like Seoul Fashion Week. Free exhibitions are frequent, so check the DDP website before visiting. The basement preserves ruins from the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park — a unique space where Joseon-era fortress walls coexist with cutting-edge modern architecture. Nighttime is when DDP truly shines. The LED-lit exterior gives it a spaceship-like glow, and the LED Rose Garden (25,550 roses) is DDP's signature night view — free and accessible 24/7 in the outdoor areas. It's also a popular filming location for K-dramas and K-pop music videos.
