A traditional Korean village with hundreds of hanok (traditional houses) dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. The narrow alleys offer stunning views between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces.

Guide
Bukchon Hanok Village is a 600-year-old residential area nestled between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces. It was home to Joseon Dynasty aristocrats and senior officials, and what makes it special is that real residents still live here today. The juxtaposition of traditional tile-roof hanok against Seoul's modern skyline is uniquely photogenic. The 'Bukchon 8 Views' — eight scenic viewpoints — are marked on the village map. The most famous are Views 5 and 6 (Gahoe-dong alleys), where layered hanok rooftops create the iconic Instagram shots. Hanbok rental shops abound, and many visitors stroll in traditional dress. Honestly, the main streets get very crowded with tourists. Duck into the side alleys for a much quieter experience, where you'll discover small craft workshops and traditional tea houses. Since March 2025, a Red Zone tourist curfew is enforced — entry is only permitted between 10:00-17:00, with a 100,000 KRW fine for violations. Please keep quiet. The most natural route is to exit Gyeongbokgung through the north gate and walk directly into Bukchon.
